The municipality of Vahrn launched an urban planning competition for the development of the new "Pardelwiesen" district on the former military area. The central challenge was to create a forward-thinking residential area that remains livable despite its proximity to noise-intensive infrastructure like the highway while simultaneously serving as a vital connecting element between the upper and lower village and the Elisabeth settlement. The competition sought innovative solutions for sustainable living that meet both the social and ecological requirements of our time.

Green Connections: Bridging Vahrn Through Natural Design

The new "Pardelwiesen" district is intended to become a lively and diverse part of the Vahrn municipality - despite its proximity to noise-intensive infrastructure. Due to its strategic location and good transport connections, it serves as a connecting element between the upper and lower village and forms an important transition to the Elisabeth settlement towards Brixen. The design focuses on elements that create identity: A new, west-facing forest strip extends into the built-up districts in the form of "green fingers" and creates a natural environment. Three main axes - the forest path, the farmstead path, and the Vahrn promenade - run in a north-south direction and provide diverse access as well as attractive connections within the district.
